Four Delegates from Shen Lab Attended the 1st International Symposium on Sustainable Cokemaking and Ironmaking
From February 5th to 8th, 2023, four group members attended The International Symposium on Sustainable Cokemaking and Ironmaking at Newcastle, Australia. The symposium brought together experts in low carbon and sustainable cokemaking and ironmaking to discuss technological developments and opportunities for collaboration.
Dr Yuting Zhuo gave an oral presentation on preparation of iron-coke materials for low carbon blast furnace operation. Mr Ziguang reported the most recent work of dynamic blast furnace model and was followed by discussion of future collaboration. Mr Dan Xu gave an presentation on the state-of-the-art particle scale CFD-DEM modelling of coke combustion and raceway formation using new techniques to overcome huge particle number problem and low resolution problem. Mr Ming Jiang Gan gave a presentation on a patented new technology - co-injection of hydrogen and biomass in blast furnace as a feasible and transitional decarbonisation technology. These research projects demonstrated our commitment to sustainable cokemaking and ironmaking, and we were pleased to share our findings with the community.
At the end of the symposium, we participated in a BlueScope Steel site tour in Wollongong, which included a tour of the blast furnace and coke oven facilities. The tour was an excellent practical application of the theories and research presented during the symposium, and gave us a greater appreciation for the challenges and opportunities in the industry. Thank Dr Peter Austin for the hosting.
We are grateful for the experience and look forward to continued collaboration with university and industry partners.
